Young people have a lot to give to others. And serving and leading within a community is an excellent way to give - it's both inspiring and character-building.

Help kids find opportunities to  serve through schools, religious organizations, after-school programs, neighborhoods, athelitc teams, youth groups and families. People engaged in service learn what it emans to be an active citizen and community member, while developing skills and gaining valuable experience.

According to the 2006 Civic and Political Health of the Nation, 36% of young people, ages 15 to 25, volunteered in the past year.

In 2004, only 47% of 18-24 year old citizens voted, 66% of citizens 25 and older voted. (Source: “The Youth Vote 2004″)

 

Students who participate in classroom discussions about current issues have a greater interest in politics, improved critical thinking & communication skills, more civic knowledge, and greater interest in discussing public affairs outside of school.
